Forrest and Lamar County-area residents with old paint, tires, TVs and computers had the chance to get rid of those items Saturday, free of charge, in a safe and convenient way.

Forrest and Lamar Counties and the City of Hattiesburg hosted a “Right Way to Throw Away Day.”

Crews were on hand to take household cleaners, transmission fluid, bleach and old electronics at either the Chain Airport or the Lamar County Multi-Purpose Center in Purvis.

“Everything from light bulbs and the components in the computers and the TVs, we get those out,” said Chris Bowen, District 5 supervisor for Forrest County. “We just don’t want to see any of this stuff ending up alongside our roads and this is just a great way for our folks to be able to dispose of it.”

Grant funds from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality help pay for the event.
